Grüss Euch Alle, First let me express our heart-felt appreciation for a successful Pool Party at the Steinberger's, even though the swimming part was somewhat limited by the weather. The ambiance inside the house was just the opposite of the foul weather: cozy and inviting.
Leo and Elizabeth were outstanding hosts, and great kudos especially to Elizabeth, who had to have emergency oral surgery that very morning. What a trooper! Leo's excellent grilling technique delivered succulent sausages, and as always, all of you provided a plethora of delightful treats to complement the main dish.
Our next party will be a first: our president, Yasmine Daugherty and her husband, Jeff, will host the end-of-season Pool Party at their lovely new home. The featured dish will be slow-smoked pork shoulder, one of Jeff's specialties. We expect your contributions to be as delicious as always. As usual, the club will provide the drinks. Please contact Heidi (sorry, I am a little late with the notice), and let her know whether or not you'll attend, and what you will bring. Yasmine requests that we park along the green areas and around the corner houses. Let's all turn out to say Caio to a wonderful summer.
Recently Lin and I took a trip to a small town south of Tyler, and we came across a wonderful surprise. In a little town called Flint, we stopped at the 4 Way Cafe, and the menu featured Wiener Schnitzel and Backhendl Salat! The chef and owner turned out to be an Austrian Innviertler by the name of Christoph Stockhammer. He was a charming and gracious host, who delivered the wonderful and unexpected treat of an authentic Austrian meal, topped off by one of the best Apfelstreudel I have ever had, rivaled only by my mother's!
We added him to the mailing list, and hope to see him and his family at one of our parties. If you are ever near Tyler (specifically, 18973 FM 2493, Flint, TX), be sure to stop in at the 4 Way Cafe and have a bite.
Servus, Emmerich
