First, a favorable mention of our illustrious Palatschinkenfest at the residence of Robby, Anna & Jax Weber. Robby and our young chef, Callan Daugherty, cooked up the delicious Palatschinken. It was much appreciated by a small, but happy group of members. It was a delightful experience, with all of us gathered on the front lawn of the Weber'squiet, tree-lined cul-de-sac. Many thanks for hosting us!
This last Saturday, we had an unexpected,early Christmas treat! Dr. Günter Krejs, alongwith his son Oliver and daughter-in-law Stephanie, hosted a gathering for us to again admire their incredible family crêche at Oliver and Stephanie's home. For me especially, since I photographed it many times, it was like visiting an old friend, reminding me of the early gatherings of local Austrians at the Krejs house on Mockingbird, before the formal existence of the club.
Many thanks to the Krejs family for their generous hospitality. It truly was a meaningful kick-off for the holiday season! Bravo!
This year, the annual Austrian Club Weichnachtsfeier will be at our new home, at 707 Huntley Street, on Sunday, December 17, starting at 4:00 p.m. It is just 10 blocks from the old house on Avalon, in the Junius Heights neighborhood. We are happy to be here and to share out new home with you.
St. Nikolaus is again making a special, late visit to our Weihnachstfeier and will be there with his helper, Krampus, at 5:00 p.m. As always, St. Nikolaus will reveal the naughty and the nice about our precious children.
Following this emotional trial, we'll have our typically sumptuous Christmas feast, crowned by Chef Heinz Prasts's Venison Ragoût. There will be plenty of Glühwein on hand, along with all the regular libations. All you need to add are your authentic Austrian delicacies: appetizers, salads, side-dishes and most importantly, desserts! (Apfelstrudel, anyone?).
We need more folding chairs, so if you can, please add that to the items you bring. Be sure to RSVP on Sign-up Genius. It would be much appreciated, if you could RSVP by December 3.
As usual following the meal, we will have a Christmas program and we need performers: musicians and readers. Lin is in charge of the program, so think about how you and your offsprings can participate. She will be giving you all a call! Kathy Knappitsch will be our trusty accompanist and Rudy Moras will join in with his violin. Finally, topping off this whole event will be all the fabulous desserts, along with coffee (and even a little Schnapps).
